GTC IN THE COMMUNITY
The Greater Tampa Chapter is committed to answering the call to action. We are dedicated to volunteering our time and talents to better serve our communities and setting the bar for excellence as it relates to giving back to others. We strive to incorporate life changing activities throughout the programming year that engages and lends support from the entire family. We are enthusiastic about serving and look forward to making a difference, one community at a time.
ABE BROWN ANGEL ADOPTION PROGRAM
For over five years, the Greater Tampa Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. has partnered with Abe Brown Ministries in a chapter wide community service activity to support their annual Christmas Blessings program. Jack and Jill youth, mothers, fathers and associates come together to serve a hot meal and provide gift and clothing donations to over 65 children with incarcerated parents.
MLK DAY OF SERVICE
GTC has partnered with various agencies in the Tampa Bay area each year to provide assistance where needed. These activities are hands on and designed with our youth in mind. Some of our activities have included preparing and serving food, beautifying communities by planting, landscaping, and painting.
OUR VOICE OUR VOTE
From the Tiny Tots to the Teens, GTC has actively participated in Voter Registration Drives over the past few years. Our children have made signs and encouraged citizens to let their voice be heard.
MARCH OF DIMES
GTC partnered with the NICU of Tampa General Hospital, to assist in providing support to moms with babies in the intensive care unit. We collected and purchased over 200 family hygiene items for the parents and age appropriate books for the siblings. It was our goal to remove the worry of having to purchase basic items while staying in the NICU and to provide something special for the siblings. The culminating event for this project was a Mother’s day celebration, where we served and fellowshiped with the moms that have babies in the NICU.
THE HATE U GIVE PRIVATE SCREENING
GTC hosted a private screening of the movie The Hate U Give. The movie is based on the best-selling book which covers topics of race, interracial dating, political activism, grief, friendship, wealth disparity, police brutality and the media's depiction of African Americans. A panel discussion was held afterwards to explore the issues raised in the movie.
